Wood Hall is the first phase of the five – phase renovation of Windsor Residence Halls at Purdue University’s West Lafayette, Indiana campus. Wood Hall, which opened in 1939 as “C” Hall, was the third hall constructed and houses all of the main offices and back-of-house spaces for the entire Windsor complex. Cheaper by the Dozen author Lillian Gilbreth was a notable Wood Hall resident. The design focuses on highlighting the building’s historic features through updated finishes, while improving accessibility and modernizing HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems. The building’s original historic lighting was restored, and all the oak and poplar woodwork was refinished. The living room features bookcases and a stone fireplace surrounded by newly reupholstered furniture in a fresh purple and green color palette. Furniture with clean and simple lines, fresh and modern lighting, and a bright blue and orange color palette, created a younger , more modern feel of the original, open basement without detracting from its past.
